Side effects that usually do not require medical attention may occur. These side effects may disappear during treatment as the body adjusts to the medication. Your health care professional may also be able to tell you how to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Increased hair growth, usually on the face, arms, and back
Less common or rare
Tenderness in male and female breasts
Headaches
This drug temporarily increases hair growth in most individuals. Hair may become longer and darker in both men and women. This may first be noticed on the face a few weeks after starting to take minoxidil. Subsequently, new hair growth may be seen on the back, arms, legs, and scalp. Talk to your doctor about shaving or using depilatories during this time. Once treatment with minoxidil is completed, hair growth will stop, but it may take several months for the new hair growth to disappear.
