東京・杉並区で母親と小学1年の娘がバックしてきた乗用車にはねられ死亡した事故で、過失運転致死の疑いで逮捕された男性がきょう午後、処分保留で釈放されたことがわかりました。

この事故は先月、杉並区・高井戸東で、自動車整備士の男性（50）が、勤務先の整備工場から乗用車を運転してバックで車道に出る際、杉本千尋さん（43）と、娘の凪ちゃん（6）の2人をはねて、死亡させたとして過失運転致死の疑いで逮捕されたものです。

その後の捜査関係者への取材できょう午後、男性が処分保留で釈放されたことがわかりました。

また、これまでの取り調べに対して男性が「ブレーキを踏んだが車が後ろに進んでしまった」と供述していることも新たにわかりました。
一方で、捜査関係者によりますと事故を起こした車両について、警視庁が整備士免許を持つ専門家と検証したところ、車に不具合は確認されなかったということです。

警視庁は今後任意で、事故を起こした車両のアクセルやブレーキなどが正常に機能するか、改めて検証して、事故の原因について詳しく調べる方針です。
